Soak it up baby!!

Jell'o Everyone, Food for thought-type-of-post. Ever stopped in your tracks to think of how far you've come? Yes we have obstacles to overcome each & every day BUT have you really given thought to the fact that there was a day you dreamed of having that obstacle? Let me explain myself. There may be times you are feeling annoyed with your spouse BUT when you were single you wished that was even an option. When you're in nursing school you're complaining about the lack of sleep due to these crazy assignments BUT when you were applying you dreamed of what it would be like to be a nursing student. When you're at work late charting on your patients and it's wayyyy past 7:30pm, you're exhausted and just itching to be home in bed BUT when you were about to sit for the NCLEX you prayed for the day you were finally a registered nurse. Moving day sucks but that's your home you worked so hard for. That crying baby drives you nuts but it's the b...

NCLEX PASS or FAIL?! ..... the big day was STRESSFUL!

Jell'o Everyone, Why o why do we pay sooo much attention to what others say? We hang on to the words of others just to be disappointed. ADVICE numero uno: for all of you looking to take the NCLEX. Forget every single thing you've ever heard anyone say about the NCLEX. My exam is going to be completely different from your exam so why even worry? It makes no sense to worry about what someone's exam had when your exam will not be the same. ADVICE numero dos: take school seriously. There is no way that you're going to cram years of information into a few study sessions. It all builds up. Alright to lets talk about my NCLEX day. I decided that I was not going to study or look at any study material the day of the exam. My stomach was in knots already and I figured I knew what I knew and that was that. I woke up early (maybe about 6 am) and gave myself enough time to get ready. Clothes were already picked out, ironed and laid out for me. The hotel (remember I drove to ...

NCLEX ... the things no one ever mentions!!!! ***LONG POST ***

Jell'o Everyone, Ok so let's get right to it. There are sooooooooooooo many things that people don't talk about when it comes to the NCLEX and quite frankly it's so friggin annoying. I'm one of those people that likes to know exactly what I'm getting myself into. OF COURSE I know that life doesn't exactly work that way BUT it doesn't change the way my brain likes to work. First things first: For those of you that have no clue what the NCLEX is let me fill you in. Once you are done with nursing school and completed your degree (in my case bachelors) you aren't a nurse. NOPE not to the state you're not. You've only just completed a grueling process to become a nurse and that's it. You must take your licensing exam (also referred to "sitting for boards") and pass to become a registered nurse. After passing this exam you become a registered nurse (RN) and can now practice in the state you are licensed in. So now that the init...

It get's CRITICAL!

Jell'o everyone! So life over on this side has been pretty much insanity ..... Why? Well I just started my specialties. Guess which one I started off with? CRITICAL CARE!! I've heard that this is possibly the most difficult class in nursing school and I can now attest to that. For now at least, I haven't finished to truly be able to say that but for now it has definitely been the most difficult. I will try to do my best to let you all know my adventures while taking this class & going to clinical. I will start off my saying that I went to my first day of clinical and it was supposed to mainly consist of touring the facility & getting to walk through the different units. In this facility there is a few different intensive care units: burn, medical, neurological & surgical/trauma.  The first day didn't just consist of what we thought. We were actually able to observe in post-mortem care. Listen, it was a very interesting learning moment for me. I h...

What's in my pockets? .... Clinical Essentials & Nurse's Week FUN!

Image
Jell'o Everyone!! Happy Nurse's week 2017!!!! Those that know me know that I don't think it's right to celebrate your birthday ONE day? .... I'm celebrating my life and I'm just going to celebrate ONE day? Umm let's try that again! What if you want to go to a concert and it's not on your birthday? Or what if you want to celebrate all week .... or all month? Go ahead. You now have my permission. Yes you're a year older but THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!! You're not celebrating because you lost a year you gained one. What a huge blessing to wake up every day and to be able to make it another year on this earth is definitely something that should be celebrated more than once a year. I'm a fan of treating yourself. Life has so many up's and down's so why not celebrate whenever you want? With that said ..... I love ... wait let me make it clear .... I LOVEEEEEE that nurse's celebrate an entire week! That's my kind of celebration...

Last time I checked we were all adults .....Right? LPN vs BSN

Jell'o Everyone, Let's get right to it. My first clinical was a nursing home. Our school understands that not all of us come from the same background. Some people have more experience than others and some are like me, no healthcare experience period. I am blessed enough to know an amazing doctor (who I admire and think he's bomb) who let me shadow some healthcare providers at the hospital where he works. I knew for sure what I wanted to do but shadowing and "doing" are very distinct things. So, like I said I first went to a nursing home. The main purpose of this clinical was to understand what a PCT does (patient care tech). It is important to know what this person does so that 1. we can get the basics and 2. know what this person's scope of work (what they can and can't do) when it comes to nurses delegating tasks. I was actually loving that "Let's start with the basics" state of mind. Yes I'm working towards my bachelor's degr...
