It get's CRITICAL!

Jell'o everyone! So life over on this side has been pretty much insanity ..... Why? Well I just started my specialties. Guess which one I started off with? CRITICAL CARE!! I've heard that this is possibly the most difficult class in nursing school and I can now attest to that. For now at least, I haven't finished to truly be able to say that but for now it has definitely been the most difficult. I will try to do my best to let you all know my adventures while taking this class & going to clinical. I will start off my saying that I went to my first day of clinical and it was supposed to mainly consist of touring the facility & getting to walk through the different units. In this facility there is a few different intensive care units: burn, medical, neurological & surgical/trauma.  The first day didn't just consist of what we thought. We were actually able to observe in post-mortem care. Listen, it was a very interesting learning moment for me. I h...

What's in my pockets? .... Clinical Essentials & Nurse's Week FUN!

Jell'o Everyone!! Happy Nurse's week 2017!!!! Those that know me know that I don't think it's right to celebrate your birthday ONE day? .... I'm celebrating my life and I'm just going to celebrate ONE day? Umm let's try that again! What if you want to go to a concert and it's not on your birthday? Or what if you want to celebrate all week .... or all month? Go ahead. You now have my permission. Yes you're a year older but THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT!! You're not celebrating because you lost a year you gained one. What a huge blessing to wake up every day and to be able to make it another year on this earth is definitely something that should be celebrated more than once a year. I'm a fan of treating yourself. Life has so many up's and down's so why not celebrate whenever you want? With that said ..... I love ... wait let me make it clear .... I LOVEEEEEE that nurse's celebrate an entire week! That's my kind of celebration...

Last time I checked we were all adults .....Right? LPN vs BSN

Jell'o Everyone, Let's get right to it. My first clinical was a nursing home. Our school understands that not all of us come from the same background. Some people have more experience than others and some are like me, no healthcare experience period. I am blessed enough to know an amazing doctor (who I admire and think he's bomb) who let me shadow some healthcare providers at the hospital where he works. I knew for sure what I wanted to do but shadowing and "doing" are very distinct things. So, like I said I first went to a nursing home. The main purpose of this clinical was to understand what a PCT does (patient care tech). It is important to know what this person does so that 1. we can get the basics and 2. know what this person's scope of work (what they can and can't do) when it comes to nurses delegating tasks. I was actually loving that "Let's start with the basics" state of mind. Yes I'm working towards my bachelor's degr...

It just got REAL!!!!! MED-SURG edition

Image
Jell'o Everyone!!!! (This blog will be all about Med-Surg) I have not posted since JANUARY!!! So sorry for that. I remember looking for a nursing blog and couldn't really find one. I was having trouble finding one that talked about someone's journey through out nursing school and I'm quickly understanding the reason why I couldn't find one. I literally don't seem to have time to blog. I'll keep trying to update you all a lot better than I have in the past few months. MED SURG was no joke ladies & gentlemen. It was definitely a lot! Thankfully I studied by butt off and I got through it. Med-Surg went over a ton of different diseases. It taught me what they were, what caused it and how a nurse should treat it or care for that patient. What are the nurses responsibilities?  I found that the exams were even tougher. The exams were more focused on the nursing management. There was more critical thinking involved. You were taught what the disease process...
